As most of you know, Dan and I are partners in life and work - and have worked alongside each other for many years, and so to us, collaboration is just a part of our day-to-day. Right from the outset, this exhibition was collaboratively conceptualised, developed and handcrafted by the two of us.
Thoughts hurriedly scribbled down before they escape, sweeping curves drawn on paper again and again looking for just the right one, bending metal offcuts to attempt to illustrate to one another the idea in our heads -- and many coffees and sweet treats consumed to fuel our creativity.
Moving into our making process, we interchangeably worked on handcrafting every piece. Hydraulic pressing, toolmaking, cutting, bending, folding, sanding, riveting, drilling, patination and photography -- it was a real partnership.
Thoughtfully conceptualised and individually handcrafted, every piece moving many times between our hands, Dan and I are so excited to share with you our first 'official' collaborative exhibition and the 55 objects that bring it together.

Making: A Way of Life presents new collaborative work by award-winning metalsmiths Alison Jackson and Dan Lorrimer. The exhibition blends small-scale production techniques with one-of-akind processes to showcase the creativity involved in producing small batch edition tableware objects.
Craftmanship and the handmade are beautifully expressed in new collections that are repeatable and accessible while retaining the character of the handmade and uniqueness seen in high-end artwork.
“Pleasingly the production systems that deliver these two bodies of work enable commercially accessible price-pointing while still allowing the warmth and subtlety of the artisan to enrich every item,” said Oliver Smith, respected silversmith and senior lecturer at University of Sydney.
