Sterling silver is a beautiful material. A material that inherently holds its value as a precious metal and one that has a lovely white toned lustre.
Over time, silver will always tarnish. Some environmental factors, moisture and humidity can cause tarnish to appear much quicker. But fear not, silver is easy to clean.
It's always a good idea to regularly check your pieces to see if they need a clean. We have tried and tested this simple and quick method in the studio many times over. To give your jewellery a refresh and have it looking as good as new, simply follow our 5 easy steps below.
This method should only be used for sterling silver pieces of our Alison Jackson Collection. Oxidised (black) pieces need special attention to restore the black finish - just email us and we'll help you out. It works well for light through to heavy tarnish. Please note that you may need to repeat the process a couple of times for heavy tarnish.
For best results: following this cleaning treatment and drying your piece, we recommend using a Goddard's Silver Polish Cloth rubbed over the pieces to bring up their shine. This also has some anti tarnish properties, giving your jewellery piece some further protection into the future.

YOU'LL NEED
• Bi-carb soda
• Aluminium foil
• Freshly boiled water
• A bowl
• Tongs or similar (to gently move your jewellery pieces)
• And your tarnished jewellery item
5 EASY STEPS
1. Scrunch up your piece of aluminium foil a little bit, with the matt side facing upwards, lay it at the bottom of the bowl.
2. Add a few tablespoons of bi-carb soda
3. Pour boiling water over the foil, dissolving the bi-card soda. Make sure you fill so the foil is all submerged.
4. Gently lower (using tongs or similar) your tarnished jewellery into the water. It won't take long - you'll see the tarnish lifting nearly right away!
5. Using tongs or similar, remove your jewellery piece. Rinse in clean water and dry immediately with a soft towel.
TIP: We find using freshly boiled hot water works best. If you're doing a few pieces you may find you need to re-fresh your water as it begins to cool it will be less effective.
